Kirstie is a movement facilitator – trained in Pilates, yoga and fitness, and with a background in dance. She brings these different elements together in all her classes. Having grown up with some fairly strict dance training, she loves to throw that out the window and all dancing these days is strictly for fun. “I try not to take it too seriously. Just leave your ego at the door and let yourself truly shine!”
“I’m continuously learning, thinking and rethinking – how the body works, how we move and how we can move better. I find the science of breathing, of movement and bio-mechanics and neuroscience fascinating – but equally I love putting on music and just jumping around – that feeling of anything goes. Breathe fully, move often and move well, break a sweat and have fun with it. Building confidence, self acceptance and self love is at the heart of my classes.”
Kirstie had always dreamt of her own studio – in fact she remembers quite clearly dancing around her dad’s garage in the 1980s and planning how she would one day convert it into a dance studio! The garage is actually a still a garage in Edinburgh but Kirstie has created her own space for movement in the Hebrides – Sandwickhill Studios. It took 3 years to get through planning and to build Sandwickhill Studios – not least because of COVID striking in 2020. The new studio space opened in Autumn 2020.
Having struggled to find spaces to operate from as a freelance teacher in and around Stornoway, Kirstie had a really clear idea of what she wanted – somewhere that doesn’t take itself too seriously but is beautiful, natural, and nurturing – a place to inspire movement, nurture friendships and community, and offer a home from home.
When people wonder how you survive winters in the Outer Hebrides ….
It`s not always like this (of course) but winter can be so gloriously colourful here - pink, orange, red, purple and blue skies and a golden hour that sometimes lasts a whole day.
Plus the benefit of sunrises being late enough to enjoy after the school run (and without having to set the alarm for 4am like in summer!)

I`m really excited to be offering 4 weeks of life coaching through the studio. We ran something similar last January with a small group and found the experience really powerful, and a great way to start the year. Claire was, in fact, one of the participants last year and has since trained as a coach herself having found the experience so transformative.
Claire will be looking at what`s stopping us living more fully & how we can get more confident & connected, experience more joy (Claire is BIG on joy, having trained through the Joy Movement with Dr Sarah Madigan) and feel more free!

Gentle Barre & Pilates is an amazing way to build or maintain functional movement, balance, co-ordination and strength.
I really believe in the benefit of this work so please help me spread the word. I`M OFFERING A FIRST CLASS FREE THROUGH JANUARY and, although we have a set price for class, I am happy to offer this class on a donation basis moving forward if you feel that the price is prohibitive. This work really matters to me and I`d love your support in getting the word out there.

So much of what we did in this class was great for falls prevention - and a fall can not just impact you physically, but also impact people socially and in terms of confidence and independence. We work with the vestibular system and the brain, as well as the body, to improve balance and co-ordination.
We also work on maintaining and developing mobility which can help you feel less stiff and achey and helps you do the things you love for longer whether that`s walking, spending time with family or anything else. If your life is more sedentary than you`d like this can be a great way to keep moving.
Strength is also a key component which helps develop stronger muscles and bones and can help prevent loss of bone density which is especially important for women as they age.
Posture is the final key element which can help you walk and stand taller at any age!
Plus it`s a fun, easy going class, with nice music, and lots of different options available.
We received funding to make this class more affordable (and to mean we could run with lower numbers) but since COVID have not been able to access support and have had to put the prices up. I also know a lot of our pre-covid attenders stopped coming when we went online and haven`t made it back to our new sstudio yet.
I would LOVE to reconnect with those who used to come and to invite some new attenders who would like to try the class.

flippin’ love Zumba. Here’s why...
I love the music, the way it makes me feel, the buzz, the community, the sweat, the dancing, the squats, the arm tracks, the power ballad cool downs.
I love the sexy salsa numbers, the classic tunes we all sing the words too, the Tina Turner medleys, the crazy fast ones when you have no idea what’s happening, the songs when you catch your breath.
I even love the disaster songs when I forget all the steps and we drop it after one week!
I LOVE the disco lights and the party atmosphere.
I LOVE seeing participants grow in confidence.
I LOVE seeing a room of smily, happy, sweaty people letting go of their insecurities!
I LOVE it when the BEAT DROPS!
I LOVE it when you come back for more!
I LOVE dancing with you!!!!

A foundation level class doesn`t need to be a stepping stone to a more advanced class. Pilates at this fundamental level - exploring the basics, moving slowly with precision and control, gaining a deeper understanding over the movements and your body - is an absolute game changer for all bodies. There isn`t always a need to do more, to learn fancier movements, to add more challenge and pace. This fundamental class might be exactly what you need (whether you have experience or not).
I also feel there is a space for a class that bridges the gap between beginner and a. more intermediate level class. Having run quite a few beginners` courses over the last 2 years I think this is a great place for those participants to take their Pilates journeys further.
I`ll include enough breakdown, teaching and explanation, and move at a pace that is suitable for beginners, but there will always be challenge for those looking for it! In fact it`s often revisiting the basics, and slowing it right down, that adds the most challenge of all.

Strength training is important and beneficial for all adults - we all naturally lose muscle strength as we age, and we can counteract this through strength and resistance training.
It`s especially important for women as the decrease of muscle mass and bone density increases at we approach and hit menopause.
You don`t have to wait until that happens though, and being proactive at whatever age you are will help you build a stronger more resilient body.
I designed this class last year combining elements of mobility, yoga and core strength alongside resistance to offer something that targeted building confidence, self love and self acceptance at the same time as building physical strength, resilience and power.
I really love how it makes me feel inside and out. We`ll be getting back to basics this January so now is the perfect time to start, whether you`re already incorporating some weight training into your schedule or not.

We had a beautiful winter wellness morning yesterday hosted by myself, Claire Smith (transformational life coach) and Sarah Jane Murray (Arbonne Representative).
40 women joined us for a morning of movement, breath, life coaching and an opportunity to try some Arbonne products and drinks.
I loved holding a free event, meeting new people and leading something a bit bigger! It actually felt like a wee dream come true as I’d always imagined having a studio so full with people, all ages and stages, all committed to their wellbeing.
I loved working with Claire and Sarah Jane in partnership like this so I’m reaching out to anyone who is interested in working more of the same in 2024! Whether you’re a freelance instructor looking to hire a spare, or someone working in a similar field interested in running a partnership event, or have a group who are interested in a specific class… I’d love to talk to you!
